Frequently Asked
Questions:
"Isn't that hobby too
expensive?"
Average first year expenses for equipment are
$500.00. This will include uniforms, leather accouterments,
canteen, brogan style shoes or boots, and hat. Typically,
new recruits are given 12 months to acquire the required
equipment, and established members can loan you equipment
to help you get started in the interim.
"Doesn't it take up a lot of
your time?"
Only if you want it to. The Charlotte Artillery does
not require a minimum number of reenactment events or
meetings. We believe this is a hobby, and while it should
be fun, informative and challenging, reenacting should
never take the place of or interfere with your family,
employment or school commitments. On the other hand, you
will likely get out of it what you put into it as
well.
"Aren't all re-enactors just a
bunch of extremists or trouble makers?"
No. The Charlotte Artillery is a family friendly
organization. While we recognize that there are
unfortunately extremists or bigots to be found in any
organization, including the government, churches,
businesses, schools, etc., we insist that new members
must provide information as to their criminal
backgrounds. No person having prior conviction of a
felony will be accepted for membership. Likewise, persons
with memberships in extremist groups such as the Ku Klux
Klan, militia or other similar paramilitary organizations
will not be accepted.
"I don't know enough about the
War Between the States to get involved"
Most of us didn't at first. By taking a part in
reenactment's, and living history weekends, you will have
opportunity to attend events at major U.S. National
Military Parks, museums, homes on the national register
of historic places, and community events throughout North
Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, South Carolina and
Georgia, and will learn an immense amount of information
about our nation's past, as well as the present. No one
is expected to be a professional historian to become
involved in reenacting.
